ABOUT

Sharp takes for people with skin in the game.

The Cover is free. Every article is freely accessible — no paywall, no signup, no metered limit. Our daily newsletter is free too. We're built for the readers most outlets ignore: people who follow the games closely enough that they've stopped caring about manufactured controversy and recycled wire copy. We write for fans, bettors, and anyone who treats the box score as more than entertainment.

What we cover

Four leagues — NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB. Game previews and reactions, line moves worth watching, injury notes that actually move totals, schedule context, and the occasional longer feature when a story warrants one.

How we work

One rule guides every story we publish: add something the reader can use. If we can't bring a take, a number, or a context our reader doesn't already have, we don't run the piece. That keeps our volume lower than the takes-mills you're used to — by design.

We don't do gambling promo content disguised as journalism. When we mention a line, it's because the line is the story. When we cite a sportsbook, we tell you why. Our editorial standards are public; if you spot us drifting from them, tell us.

Where the data comes from

Player stats, splits, defensive matchups, and prop research on The Cover are powered by DataStreak. DataStreak runs an in-house algorithm across 6 data pillars — streaks, splits, defensive matchups, head-to-head history, lineup changes, and fatigue — to surface the highest hit rates at tonight's exact lines. No AI guesswork; real algorithms, real data. If you want a tool that does the legwork for you in 60 seconds, check out DataStreak directly.

Live odds across US sportsbooks (DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, ESPN BET, Bovada, BetRivers) come from The Odds API and update every minute. ESPN's public scoreboard powers the “Today's Games” widget on every sport page.

Who's behind it

A small editorial team led by veteran sports writers — every byline is human, no AI-generated articles. Meet them on the Authors page.

Responsible play

Most of our readers bet. We support that. We also know a small percentage of bettors turn into people who shouldn't be betting. If gambling has stopped being fun, call 1-800-GAMBLER (US, 24/7, free, confidential). 21+ everywhere we operate.
